According to a recent poll, David Beckham is the guy most British men would choose as their best mate.

The survey, carried out by Maxim magazine to celebrate the launch of new game Army of TwoT from Electronic Arts, asked guys which celeb they’d most like to befriend. Beckham come top of the list with 27%, followed by DJ Johnny Vaughan at 22%, and Chris Moyles with 19%. Ant and Dec made it into the top 10 with Dec getting 9% compared with Ant’s measly 6%.

But don’t cry yet Ant, because you guys were voted number 5 in the top 10 greatest double acts of all time in the same poll. Top of the list with 31% were the Two Ronnies, with Eastender’s Mitchell Brothers in second place at 22.5%. Morecambe and Wise managed to scrape in at number three with 18.6%, ahead of Beavis and Butthead who bagged 12.4%.

The show takes place on Sunday 26 October 2008 at the London Palladium, and auditions will be in July, but you must book beforehand. The production is a one-night-only performance, part of Showtime Challenge, with the show rehearsed in 48 hours.

The challenge seems crazy, but it’s exciting and rewarding, and the majority of past casts have signed up for auditions again - so they weren’t scared off too much! It’s a great opportunity to appear on a West End stage as part of a high-profile event, and several previous cast members landed agents.

Auditions are open to anyone. To book your slot visit  www.meandmygirl2008.co.uk.

The Lady in Blue

Posted in Celebrities and Fame, Friendship, Happiness and Spirituality, People and Psychology on May 17, 2008 by Helen Grant

I know a lady who wears a blue mac and her eyes are the same deep shade of blue as her coat. She has sandy coloured hair and though she smiles with her mouth only occasionally, her eyes smile all the time.

She dances when alone, late at night in her apartment that overlooks a cluster of pavement cafes. But behind the twinkle in her eyes is a heartache, a yearning and bewilderment that only a few are aware.

She has emotions long ago buried that belong to another time. She cries when alone but laughs in public, and dreams of a house on the rocks; a place filled with love, warmth and safety.

She dreams of a barge painted in vibrant colours, of proper coffee in paper cups, of slow moving time and beautiful gardens, and a world of books and music.

With a window seat here, and her desk there, and bowls of primroses and purring cats at her ankles, she has a steely inner core and doesn’t suffer fools gladly. She dreams of shiny personalities and a world less cruel. Few know her and I am one of the lucky few.
