Today I’m on a mission to slow down. Instead of rushing through the day, from one job to another, from one meeting to another, until I collapse on the couch, exhausted, at the end of the day, from now on I will be practising the art of slow.
Yup, that means doing everything s-l-o-w-e-r. I will walk slower, drive slower, eat slower, talk slower and … breathe slower. Of course, that also means more leisurely baths, and it will take me longer to emerge from under the duvet in the mornings, but you have to take the rough with the smooth.
Life is not meant to be rushed. What’s the hurry? I have been practising the art of slow all day, and I feel better already. Even thinking about the word slow makes the world feel like it’s moving in slow motion. Try it! Focus on the word slow for a few minutes, repeat it like a mantra, clear your head of all other thoughts, and you’ll instantly feel more chilled. But remember to breathe!
Now all that remains is for everyone else to slow down a little, especially driving to work and back. Were we really put on this planet to spend a quarter of our life on congested roads? If so, then in the name of what? i really don’t get it. If slowing down is the key to a saner, more peaceful, more relaxed, more enjoyable life – where do I sign?
I’m off for a long, hot bath with a book and a glass of wine. See? My life is simpler already. No more quick showers for me.
